This is the first book to focus on the UK HIV epidemic, and within that reflects on the HIV experience of African communities through individual stories and reflections rather than HIV statistics.

Bakita is a contributor to the book. The book is co-authored by, Angelina Namiba Winnie Ssanyu Sseruma, Charity Nyirenda, Rebecca Mbewe and Memory Sachikonye.

Wasafiri is a quarterly British literary magazine covering international contemporary writing. Bakita contributed three poems to the Winter 2022 issue.

With an overview of the politics and history of black hair, the book explores how black hairstyles have played a part in the fight for social justice and the promotion of black culture.

Bakita’s chapter focus on growing up in a predominately white area in southeast London shaped her relationship with her hair, and how she grew out of internalised negative thoughts to loving her hair!

MORE THAN TALK

The anthology captures what it means to work within sexual and reproductive health today, while understanding the impact of colonial legacies on sexuality and sexual identity formation to understanding how social scripts form sexual attitudes and behaviour amongst different groups alongside understanding how participating and investing in research to improve service design and delivery for BPoC can create better sexual health outcomes.

Bakita’s chapter focuses on humanising participation in health research methods.
